Parents & Supporters

We are so excited your student is attending the University of Arkansas! While not required, parents and supporters are encouraged to participate in orientation with their student.

Why participate in Orientation with my student?

We recognize the college your student chooses will play a big part in their lives, and in the lives of parents and supporters. We at the University of Arkansas strive to provide the best experience for a smooth transition. New Student Orientation, along with the Office of Admissions, helps students connect with their appropriate academic college advising team as part of orientation so they can enroll in their first semester of courses. NSO also offers you the chance to familiarize yourself with campus resources, and learn about important tips to help students reach their academic and personal goals.

The Office of Admissions and NSO staff look forward to working with you and your student moving forward in the admissions and enrollment process with the U of A!

Are there fees associated with attending New Student Orientation?

There are 3 fees associated with orientation:

Parent and Guest fee

For every person over the age of 12 who attends orientation with a registered student, a $50 fee will be applied to the student's tuition and fees statement for the following term. This fee supports Parent and Family Programs within the Office of New Student and Family Programs. This office serves as the primary liaison between the University and Razorback families. They plan, develop, and implement specific events, resources, and services for families. By attending orientation as a parent or guest, you are considered a member of the Parent and Family Partnership Association.

New Student fee

A non-refundable fee of $95 will be applied to the tuition and fees statement of any student who attends orientation and/or enrolls in classes.

ID Card fee

When a student uploads a photo for their ID card or has their photo taken at the Campus Card Office, a non-refundable fee of $24 will be applied to their tuition and fees statement to be paid the upcoming term.

How do I register to attend Orientation?

All parents and supporters who attend orientation with their student will simply register during check-in at orientation. No need to preregister.

Where do I stay during the overnight portion of Orientation?

While your student has the option to stay overnight on campus in a residence hall as a part of the orientation program, we recommend parents and supporters make hotel accommodations in advance of their attendance. Parent & Family Programs provides a list of area hotels and other area attractions you may want to consider while in Fayetteville for orientation.

What if I need special accommodations during Orientation?

We are so excited to have you join us and want to ensure the best possible experience for you and your student. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or need any necessary accommodations by emailing us at nso@uark.edu or calling 479-575-4200.
